Why do people buy luxury vintage products?

The research is limited to consumers based in Italy and their purchasing habits and motivations.

Findings of the study show that that buying luxury vintage products improves an individual’s confidence, demonstrates a feeling of fulfillment, and pleases their own identity.

The luxury and vintage market are both estimated to grow (Bain & company, 2014; Beard, 2008 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

However, there is a lack of engagement in research.

The purchasing of antique goods, even premium vintage goods, can be influenced by a number of ideas that are connected with them.

Nostalgia (Cervellon et al., 2012 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.) is a first idea that is closely associated to such items.

Nostalgia is a psychological sense of grief and regret that people experience when they feel cut off from certain things, people, places, or experiences (BambauerSachse & Gierl, 2009; Holbrook, 1993 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

Due to the fact that they originate from bygone times, vintage goods typically evoke sentiments of nostalgia and serve as a reminder of both previous events and fashion trends.

Marketing strategists have been re-launching and revitalising vintage goods that evoke nostalgia throughout the past few decades to capitalise on customer nostalgia (Bambauer & Sachse, 2009 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

Numerous manufacturers of luxury goods have implemented "vintage" marketing techniques, drawing inspiration from the past.

What is Vintage?

The definition of vintage mostly describes items of a certain time (Turunen & Leipämaa-Leskinen, 2015 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.) or that speak for a past trend.

Often those vintage products are favoured due to cultural motivations and premium quality.

Other than second-hand products, luxury vintage items that gradually experience an increase in value (Cervellon, Carey, & Harms, 2012 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

Brands likes Cartier, Chanel and others have proved this observation.

The current post-covid economic downturn affected most European nations has had a big impact on consumer behaviour.

Consumer expenditure has decreased because of the loss in real income, which has also contributed to growth of a rising product demand at the same time.

Although with various characteristics and modes inexpensive and high-quality time (Cassidy, 2012).

Why did Luxury Vintage Fashion become so popular?

Due to the rise of e-commerce and the Internet over the past several decades, vintage luxury goods have become increasingly important in the luxury market.

As a result, many luxury fashion firms have begun looking to the past for design inspiration and reintroduce previous patterns in their most recent collections (Cervellon et al., 2012 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

The design, style, or textiles of luxury items now are reminiscent of the twentieth century.

For illustration, some of the most recent Gucci collections are sometimes described as "vintage" because they draw inspiration from the brand's long-ago products (Vogue, 2015 cited in Amatulli et al., n.d.).

Another aspect that has been connected to the rise in popularity of vintage is a shift in consumers' views on using and wearing used products.

An integration of vintage ideas in contemporary designs by fashion designers and in the trends promoted by the forecasting industry, as well as eco-sustainability and technology, are other reasons that support the expansion of the vintage trend in addition to a shift in views.

The push towards vintage fashion, which has been aided by a backlash against mass-produced fast fashion as consumers seek greater uniqueness in their style and clothing, also appears to be supported by vintage customers and vintage stores (Cassidy, 2012).

Furthermore, Cassidy (2012) suggest that with the backing of the government and pressure groups, eco-fashion and sustainable fashion ideas have evolved as remedies for the environmental problems that are now inherent in the industry's manufacturing methods.
